7 Items to Add to Your Grocery List

If you’re trying to cut back on trips to the grocery store, one of the best things you can do is stock up on versatile items. All Satori Flats apartments have ample cabinet space and large pantries – plenty of room to store your groceries. Heading to the store soon? Take a look at this list of items that can help you make a variety of meals:

1. Spices and herbs.

Spices and dried herbs have a long shelf life. Some of the most versatile spices are oregano, basil, garlic powder, cumin, and paprika. Dried, minced onion or onion powder is also good to keep on hand, because you can use it to flavor soups and other dishes when you don’t have a fresh onion. If you enjoy making soup, don’t forget to put bay leaves on your list – adding one or two to a pot of soup creates a nice flavor.

2. The baking essentials.

Flour (gluten-free if you prefer), sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and butter are the foundation ingredients for most baked goods. (Tip: You can keep butter in the freezer and thaw it as you need it).

3. A collection of cooking oils.

Olive oil is perfect for making salad dressing or for low-temperature cooking. For stir fry dishes and high-heat cooking, use coconut oil or toasted sesame oil.

4. Rice and grains.

Another diet staple, rice (white, brown, Jasmine, wild, etc.) is a perfect side dish or a great foundation for leftovers. Quinoa is a good base for an easy bowl meal (with veggies and sauce), and barley is a nice addition for soups.

5. Legumes.

Beans of all kinds (black, pinto, garbanzo, etc.) pack a ton of protein and fiber, which makes for a filling meal even when you're running low on meat and seafood. Opt for canned or dried (just soak overnight before using).

6. Tinned fish.

Canned tuna, salmon, or mackerel give you easy options for upping the protein content and flavor of salads.

7. Coffee.

If you’re a person who can’t function without that morning cup of joe, make sure you have enough coffee to get through a few weeks.
