Decorating for Dogs

Choosing the Right Pieces for Your Apartment

Looking for dog-friendly apartments in Avon, Indiana? Satori Flats welcomes pets. Living here, the chic and modern interior finishes may inspire you to order a new sofa or buy a new area rug. When you have a dog, though, decorating can be a bit of a challenge.

Take a look at these tips for choosing furnishings that are fashionable, functional, and resilient:

Low Pile = Low Maintenance

A plush or wooly rug is a dog-magnet – dogs can’t help but curl up on a cozy surface. A short-nap rug (ideally, in colors that coordinate with your dog’s fur) will be much easier to keep clean. And make sure you add a mat just inside your front door, to absorb moisture after rainy-day walks and protect your floors from dirty paw prints.

Cover Your Furniture

If you want a gorgeous mid-century modern sofa or velvet upholstery, spend $40 to $50 on a waterproof furniture cover. These sturdy, blanket-like items can help prevent dog-related stains and snags while you’re away from home (and keep your pet comfy, too).

Choosing a Table

A large dog with a large tail can sweep a coffee table of its contents in seconds, so if you have one of these animals, you might want to stick with a pair of tall end tables instead. Choose solid and sturdy end tables, such as metal-framed pieces with marble tops that can withstand a jostling.

Find a Fancy Dog Bed

Modern dog beds are available in a variety of fun styles, such as Danish-modern, Victorian-era, and Burberry-inspired plaid. One furniture company makes an ornate mahogany and cherry double-decker dog bed that weighs 122 pounds! Whatever your personal style may be, you can probably find a coordinating bed for your dog.
